BLADE FREE LASIK ORANGE COUNTY

Which is better? Blade, bladeless, or blade-free Lasik? Let’s start by defining what these three (3) mean to patients researching Lasik eye surgery to correct your vision. The phrases “blade” and “bladeless” come up often when patients research Lasik. What do they mean? Traditionally, Lasik uses an instrument called a microkeratome which cuts a thin flap of the eye’s cornea or transparent surface. In the past, that flap was lifted, and laser energy was used to reshape your eye to correct your vision. In 1999, a new technique was introduced using a high-energy laser called the femtosecond laser instead of a blade. It was the first FDA-approved bladeless flap.
In the United States, it became known as IntraLase and eventually was bought by Advanced Medical Optics and is now marketed by the name iLasik. Bladeless and Blade-Free Lasik both utilize the IntraLase technology of iLasik. There are some surgeons who still use the traditional method of a blade or microkeratome for vision correction or replacing the flap in the Lasik procedure.

WHY DOES BLADE-FREE LASIK MATTER?

It ensures more precise flaps and a smoother surface for your vision correction. Once the layer of the cornea is separated, the flap remains hinged on one side is then lifted back uncovering the stroma or middle section of the cornea. Now a second laser, called an excimer laser, performs the correction. of the cornea. It reshapes the curvature of the cornea to the desired refraction. The flap is then put back in its original position where it adheres naturally. The whole procedure takes only a few minutes. Immediately after the treatment, you can open and close your eyes regularly. After a few hours, your vision will be restored. It is the best blade-free Lasik treatment option for your eyes.

THE BENEFITS OF BLADE-FREE VISION CORRECTION.

If you are interested in blade-free Lasik surgery, the first thing you should do is call to schedule a consultation. It is critical to have your eyes and vision evaluated by Dr. Ghosheh. Further, it is essential to know what Lasik can and cannot do for your eyes. Lasik is a procedure that changes the shape of the eye’s surface. The purpose of the procedure is to keep the distance vision is as good as possible. Dr. Ghosheh can do blade-free or bladeless Lasik to improve your near vision, but with that, you lose some of your distance vision, and that is called monovision. Generally, those under 45 are interested in correcting their distance vision.
Blade free or all-laser Lasik is used to make a little flap, and in the past, a metal blade was used to make the flap. The problems with that metal blade were that it was a blind pass over the surface over the eye. As a doctor, you cannot see under that flap until it has been generated. After you lift up the blade, then you would see it is off-center or not perfectly round. Anything like that would cause scarring or blurry vision that is not fixable. With blade-free Lasik, at the beginning of the procedure, Dr.Ghosheh looks through the center of the machine to ensure it is centered over the pupil. The machine then sends bubbles down to the preferable depth, zooming across the cornea in about 21 seconds. Every time the flap is perfect. It is almost impossible to have a problem with the corneal flap. The advantages of this procedure are many.

The first step in the iLASIK procedure is to perform a series of tests. This is to determine the individual’s vision using Advanced CustomVue® Wavescan technology. The Wavescan system creates a 3-D map of the unique imperfections of your eyes. This technology provides a more precise measurement than standard methods used for glasses and contact lenses. This map helps drive the laser that will correct your vision.

Making The blade free LASIK Flap

The iLASIK procedure exclusively uses the Intralase Method A 100% blade-free approach to creating your corneal flap. The corneal flap is the thin flap of tissue that the doctor folds back to perform your LASIK procedure. The Intralase laser creates a precise flap by producing tiny bubbles inside the cornea. Traditional LASIK surgery is a 2-step process. First, a flap needs to be created in the cornea with a small metal blade. By creating a flap in the cornea, the laser vision correction treatment can continue on the inner layer of the cornea.

Also, the creation of the corneal flap with a hand-held mechanical device called a microkeratome was standard. Though this method has worked well over the years, the conduct of these devices can be unpredictable. Although LASIK complications are infrequent, this mechanical device is often the source for many of the difficulties.

With iLASIK, Dr. Ghosheh uses an exact laser to create the corneal flap. The accuracy of the laser is unmatched by any other technology in vision correction surgery. This advanced technology allows for Dr. Ghosheh to customize the corneal flap for every individual patient. Because of its accuracy, iLASIK now makes it possible to treat many patients who were not ideal candidates for laser vision correction due to thin corneas.

iLASIK is considered a safer approach to vision correction surgery. As a result of the superior precision of a computer-controlled laser as compared to that of a hand-held mechanical device. iLASIK carries out the flap procedure with a laser instead of a blade, and thus reducing the risk of complications.

The precision of iLASIK has been documented in studies conducted for the FDA clearance of the laser, where the accuracy of flap thickness was demonstrated at +/- 10 microns. Precise flap thickness is critical to a successful LASIK outcome. iLASIK provides a consistent flap thickness unmatched in flap creation technology to date.

The IntraLase FS Laser has been cleared by the FDA and became commercially available on a limited basis in 2001. The IntraLase FS Laser is the only laser that provides iLASIK. To date, over 22,000 procedures have been completed with no significant complications reported.
Only iLASIK offers the safety of micron-level precision of an all laser surgical approach. Other providers may advertise all-laser, but you should ensure that iLASIK is indeed being used to create your flap.
Typically, you should plan to spend 2-3 hours at the Advanced Eye Medical center on the day of your iLASIK procedure. You will need someone to drive you to and from your surgery. After your surgery, you will go home to rest and sleep for the rest of the day to give your eyes a chance to heal. The day after your surgery, you will come in for your postoperative appointment.
