CLEAR LENS EXTRACTION

MONOVISION CORRECTION IN ORANGE COUNTY

Clear Lens Replacement is an exciting option for individuals over 40 who are considering refractive surgery to decrease dependence on glasses and contact lenses. This procedure entails removing the natural lens of the eye and replacing it with an intraocular lens (IOL) implant. The procedure is essentially the same as a cataract operation with lens implant, however, in this case, the procedure is completed prior to cataract development for the refractive advantage. Dr. Ghosheh and his team specialize in this type of vision correction, and have been successfully performing it for their Orange County patients (to their great satisfaction) for years.

What is Monovision Correction?

A second alternative for patients who are considering lens replacement surgery but who do not embrace the notion of wearing reading glasses following surgery, is monovision. With monovision, the traditional monofocal IOL implant is inserted bilaterally, however, the patient’s dominant eye is corrected for distance and the non-dominant eye is corrected for up close activities like reading or browsing on the computer. Basically what this gives you is the ability to see near and far, but with your non-dominant and dominant eye giving you different pictures of what you’re looking at. This may sound useless and counter-intuitive, but it is actually quite effective. For most patients, the brain actually corrects automatically for the difference and fills in the disparity automatically. This sounds impossible, but your brain already filters out useless visual information like your nose, and fills in the blind spot in your vision anyway so it’s actually quite feasible.

To ensure you are eligible for a successful monovision implant, Dr. Ghosheh will have you wear monovision contacts for a few weeks. If your eyes and brain adjust accordingly, you can proceed with monovision correction procedure. The surgery is typically very quick and safe. Your eyes will need to adjust before your vision returns to normal, but this should be lessened considerably by the contact trial period.

Is Monovision Right for Me?

Ultimately, monovision isn’t for everyone. Some can’t adjust to the vision correction, and not everyone’s eyes can handle the strain. However, monovision has an extremely high success rate, especially with the no-risk contact trial phase. If you’d like to see if monovision is right for you, give us a call and schedule a consultation today. Monovision correction has helped hundreds of thousands, if not millions of people over 40 to see better around the world. It uses your brain’s natural tendency to adapt to changes in your vision, and completely eliminates the need to wear contacts or glasses to correct your vision.

I had Lasik done here about 3 months ago. I can’t believe I waited so long to do it. My left eye is 20/20 and my right eye is 20/15 now. I LOVE it!
